Gaius isn’t exactly who he says he is, but the trick is, he doesn’t know that! Born the son of a humble farmer in Breland, Gaius grew up in the country. His Father served in the Last War but was discharged when he lost his arm below the elbow. When Gaius came of age, much to his Father’s dismay he was drafted into the service of Breland’s military. He made his tearful goodbyes and was taken to a fortress keep to be trained. During his training a freak storm broke and Gaius was struck by lightning. Shortly thereafter he began to exhibit power over weather like effect and the ability to direct bolts of lightning and other sorcerous abilities.
He was quickly snagged up by the King’s Citadel and indoctrinated into a special formation of adventurers tasked with operating behind enemy lines and conducting secret missions on behalf of the King. Gaius reveled in his new powers and abilities but soon he and his comrades grew carried away with their power. They started to conduct missions outside of their orders, wreaking havoc and wanton destruction in the other kingdoms. During one particularly harsh mission, something happened and his unit went too far, and Gaius snapped. The shame of what he’d done, the war fatigue just grew to be too much and during one stormy night, Gaius just left and wandered out into the terrible storm.
He doesn’t remember anything of this past life now, or rather he blocks it out. He knows he ‘served’ in the Last War, but the details are foggy and if asked about it, he will often try to change the subject. If he is pressured about it, he gets progressively agitated and defensive to the point that he will use force to escape the situation. Since he left the service and the war ended, Gaius has wandered the land having no recollection of his past, again, it’s a more a case of blocking this out as he subconciously would not want to face his father out of the shame for his actions during the war. He now does good deeds and tries to help those in need while he also tries to find his fortune. He does enjoy the finer things in life and has no problem doing missions for money, but he is very careful about the missions he chooses to do, but that doesn’t mean he’s not gullible or could be tricked to work under false pretenses.
Gaius is a bit eccentric compared to his former forgotten self. He is a tad claustrophobic, but not chronically so, he can sleep and stay indoors at an inn, but enjoys the outdoors a great deal more, and has a tendency to walk around during a storm and in fact tries to find the highest ground to observe the spectacle, as lightning doesn’t bother him so much. He is cautious and a tad paranoid, but good humored and friendly. He has a magnetic personality and is a good speaker and has a talent for talking his way out of trouble.
His old self is much different….(Think William Muney back when he was young and full of beans Jim! ;))
